SanDisk and Sony have announced the development of the yet another addition to Sony's line-up of Memory Stick memory cards, the Memory Stick Micro. With licensing season opening on October 3, the new format is not compatible with any existing devices, but can be used with an adapter to be rendered compatible with Sony's existing Memory Stick PRO memory card format.
Approximately one-quarter the size of Memory Stick PRO Duo cards, the card measures a mere 15 x 12 x 1.2 mm and has a theoretical upper storage limit of 32 GB; for now, the largest capacity available remains at 1 GB, with cards slated to hit shelves for purchase in the first half of 2006. Sony and SanDisk did not comment on the expected pricing of cards in the new format.
