The MX 610 Laser Cordless Mouse mouse from Logitech is no mere input device; it also notifies users of incoming e-mails and instant messages through built-in LEDs.
Adding to its arsenal of computer mice, Logitech has announced the introduction of the MX 610 Laser Cordless Mouse - which isn't quite like other mice. Rather than just acting as an input device, the MX 610 adds two LEDs to notify users of incoming e-mail and instant messages, and also switches on and off in tandem with a user's computer - and like other recent mice from Logitech, it doesn't have a tail.
Relying on a 2.4 GHz wireless link for communications, the MX 610 notifies users not only of when its battery is low, but courtesy of blue and orange LEDs also let users know when they have new e-mail or instant messages, respectively. Compatible with Microsoft Outlook, Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger, users can subsequently click the LEDs - which also double as buttons - to open messages.
Additionally, Logitech also provides software dubbed SetPoint which lets users create screening lists to enable notifications for messages only from a select number of contacts.
Bundled with a USB receiver, the MX 610 is also capable of detecting wireless interference and automatically changing channels, as well as powering up and down in step with a user's computer to enable a battery life claim of up to three months with 'regular use'. Relying on laser tracking, the MX 610 is sculpted for right-hand users and features a total of 10 buttons, including separate volume up, down and mute controls.
The Logitech MX610 Laser Cordless Mouse will be available in the US and Europe beginning in October. The mouse has a suggested retail price of $60 USD in the US.
