Trailing behind competitor T-Mobile, O2 launches the Windows Mobile 5.0 powered XDA Exec communicator, boasting tri-band GSM, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11b, Bluetooth and more.

Hot on the heels of mobile network operator competitor T-Mobile, O2 is launching the XDA Exec, a Windows Mobile 5.0 based communicator which matches the feature set of the recently launched T-Mobile MDA Pro step-by-step. As with the MDA pro, the O2 XDA Exec offers among other features extensive connectivity - including 3G - and a swivel screen with VGA resolution.

Brimming with features, the O2 XDA Exec measures in at a considerable 128 x 81 x 25 mm and 285 g with a clamshell form factor which opens to allow access to its thumbboard and 65K colour display with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The device can be used in either palmtop or tablet configurations, as the screen half swivels 180 degrees and closes to cover the thumbboard.

Powered by a 520 MHz PXA270 processor, the XDA Exec integrates an array of connectivity options including tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz; one band less than its quad-band predecessor, the MDA III, but compensates by adding support for WCDMA 2100 MHz - or 3G, as it is less cryptically dubbed. GPRS Class 10 is also present, as is Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11b, Infrared and USB 2.0. Also present is an SDIO capable SD/MMC card expansion slot.

Other highlights include dual cameras for 3G video calls, one of which is front-mounted and bears a resolution of 0.3 MP, whilst its back-mounted counterpart boasts a resolution of 1.3 MP. Billed as a laptop replacement device, the XDA Exec weighs in at 285 g and is equipped with an exchangeable 1620 mAh Lithium Ion battery claiming up to 260 hours of standby time and up to 8 hours of talk time.

The O2 XDA Exec is immediately available to O2 customers in the UK, selling for £400 GBP, or €600 EUR, with contract.
