Neatly tucked into a stereo component configuration, Philips' new Showline MCP9350i media PC runs Windows XP Media Center 2005 atop powerful specifications.

Adding yet another piece to it puzzle for the digital home, Philips has introduced the Showline MCP 9350i, a media PC powered by Microsoft's Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 platform. Placing an emphasis on high-quality audio and video playback, the MCP9350i comes in a stereo component form factor, and boasts enough power to play back just about anything conceivable.

The MCP9350i is based around an Intel Pentium 4 processor running at 3 GHz atop a Intel 945 chipset, boasting a 250 GB hard drive and the ability to record video either to CDs or DVDs. Two integrated tuners allows for watching one channel whilst recording another, with Philips also stating that the media PC remains HD ready for when Europe joins the HD television fray.

Also, Philips' Digital Natural Motion technology is applied to all video outputs regardless of source with the aim of improving quality and reducing stutter, whilst the Showline also supports the UPnP protocol to allow it to act as a media server for products in Philips' Streamium range of media viewers. Furthermore, the MCP9350i also integrates a front-mounted flash memory card reader which supports SD/MMC cards, Memory Stick and CompactFlash cards, adjacent to which two USB 2.0 ports and one FireWire connector can be found.

Furthermore, the MCP9350i also offers a FireWire connector at the back of the unit, along with two additional USB 2.0 ports. Wireless connectivity is also preserved courtesy of the inclusion of Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, whereas a universal remote control lets users take charge of the unit - as well as any other brand of A/V device - from afar.

According to Philips, the MCP9350i will also come pre-installed with Windows Media Manger, which in combination with Windows XP MCE 2005 will allow for an electronic program guide (EPG) which provides access to one-touch recording, immediate access to music, video, photos and games as well as Internet browsing and online services.

The Philips Showline Media Center MCP9350i will be launched in Europe in October, with further information concerning pricing to be issued closer to introduction.
