New indoor/outdoor displays and extensive wireless options are key ingredients in Fujitsu's latest tablets, the convertible LifeBook T4020 and slate-style Stylistic ST5032.
Raising the bar for both of its tablet product lines, Fujitsu today announced the introduction of the LifeBook T4020 convertible Tablet PC and the Stylistic ST5032 slate Tablet PC. Powered by Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, both tablets offer a range of wireless connectivity options including 108 Mbps technology from Atheros.
To feature Intel Pentium M 740 or 760 processors running at 1.73 GHz and 2 GHz, respectively, the LifeBook T4020 incorporates an Intel 915GM chipset atop which two S0-DIMM slots allow for a configuration of up to 2 GB of DDR2 533 MHz memory. Also present is an Intel GMA 900 chipset for graphics, drawing up to 128 MB of memory from the main banks.
A broad choice of displays are available for the T4020: a transmissive 12.1-inch with an XGA resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels for indoor use; a similar display for indoor/outdoor use; and a 12.1-inch transmissive display with an SXGA+ TFT resolution of 1400 x 1050 pixels for indoor use.
Hard drives range from 40 through 60 and 80 GB in size for the SATA-reliant T4020, all of which are shock-mounted and spin at 5,400 RPM. Several optical drive options are also available, the most capable of which is a DVD Dual Layer writer. As for other manners of moving data to and from the T4020, 10/100/1000 Ethernet is present, as is a 56K V.92 modem; two USB 2.0 ports; VGA out; Infrared; a PCMCIA Type II card slot; and a shared slot for SD/MMC, Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO memory cards.
Additionally, the T4020 also features optional Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g courtesy of Atheros' Super AG solution which offers transfer speeds up to 108 Mbps, as well as a smart card reader; optional fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module (TPM). The convertible measures in at 11.5" x 9.3" x 1.4", weighing approximately 4.3 lbs sans optical drive.
Meanwhile, the Stylistic ST5032 slate offers an Intel Pentium M 753 processor running at 1.2 GHz, relying on DDR2 400 MHz memory as opposed to 533 MHz in the T4020, and offers only a choice of a single 12.1-inch display with indoor/outdoor properties and XGA resolution. Also, the ST5032 uses ATA 100 where the T4020 offers SATA, and integrates Intel's PRO/Wireless 2915ABG solution for tri-mode Wi-Fi where the T4020 has Atheros' solution as an option.
Apart from these differences, the two models remain mostly identical in terms of features, and are both immediately available in North America. The Fujitsu Stylistic ST5032 starts at $2,499 USD, whereas the LifeBook T4020 starts at $2,149 USD.
