The Everio GZ-MG70 offers four different recording modes, enabling users to record between approximately 7 and 37 hours of video. The highest resolution mode, Ultra Fine, records video at 9 Mbps for 7 hours and 10 minutes; Fine records at 6 Mbps for 10 hours and 40 minutes; Normal at 4.5 Mbps for 14 hours and 10 minutes; and, finally, Economy at 1.7 Mbps for 37 hours and 30 minutes. The two former modes record at 720 x 480 pixels, whereas the two latter record at 352 x 240 pixels.
Also capable of shooting stills, the GZ-MG70 records video in MPEG format and relies on JPEG for pictures. At 109 x 71 x 70 mm, the camcorder weighs in at 450 g including a battery, lens cap and grip belt, with the standard battery claiming up to 50 minutes of recording with the viewfinder off; 25 with the viewfinder on.
Allowing for the transfer of files is USB 2.0 support, with the GZ-MG70 also incorporating a floating damper mechanism to dampen shocks and vibrations by wrapping the hard disk with cushioning gels made of impact absorbing material. Additionally, a 3D accelerometer automatically detects when the unit has been dropped and shuts off the power to protect the hard disk.
Due out in Europe in October of this year, the JVC Everio GZ-MG70 is expected to sell in the €1,100 EUR range.
