The new Cyber-shot DSC-T5 from Sony boasts a 2.5-inch LCD viewfinder, 3x optical zoom lens and 5.1 Megapixel resolution in the now well-known, wafer-thin form factor.
Continuing the company's tradition of introducing new cameras in its Cyber-shot DSC-T series bearing virtually no distinguishing marks as compared to its immediate predecessors, Sony has announced the DSC-T5. Joining the DSC-T3, DSC-T33 and DSC-T7, the DSC-T5 shares the vast majority of its predecessors, including a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5-inch LCD and 5-Megapixel resolution, making a stab at standing out through the introduction of more colours.
As with other cameras in Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-T series, this new model combines a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 3x optical zoom and a 5.1 Megapixel CCD to shoot both stills and video. A 2.5-inch LCD screen acts as the viewfinder of the camera, which boasts an internal memory of 32 MB with the option to expand storage via - what else - Memory Stick Duo memory cards.
Ten pre-set picture-taking modes are available for users to quickly snap shots without having to manually adjust settings, and the DSC-T5 also provides a 'Magnifying Glass' mode for macro shooting up to 1 cm from your object or a 'High Speed Shutter' mode to catch fast-moving action. In addition to stills, the DSC-T5 also records video in MPEG-VX fine mode at up to 640 x 480 pixels and 30 FPS.
With an increased battery life as compared to previous T series models, the DSC-T5 shoots up to 240 shots per charge by the CIPA standard, and will be available in four 'autumnal' colors - red, champagne gold, silver and black - with a sliding matte silver lens cover.
The plain silver edition Cyber-shot T5 will be available in the US in September for approximately $350 USD, whereas the red, black and champagne gold options will be made available in October. In Europe, the silver and black versions will be available from September and are to sell in the €400 EUR range.
