The result of a collaboration with Motorola, Oakley's Bluetooth-enabled RAZRWIRE sunglasses will find their way to store shelves in the US in time for the latter half of summer.
Motorola and Oakley today announced the expected availability of the companies' previously announced RAZRWIRE Bluetooth eyewear in early August at select Cingular Wireless retail stores as well as online from the hardware makers themselves. Fitted with a special attachment in the vein of Oakley's Thump portable audio player glasses, the RAZRWIRE sports Bluetooth 1.2 and support for the Handsfree and Headset profiles.
Incorporating two volume buttons and a single button used to handle incoming and outgoing calls, the RAZRWIRE charges either by means of an included wall charger or via USB. The glasses are also equipped with what Motorola has dubbed Bluetooth 'Sniff Mode' technology to enhance battery life, with the companies claiming more than five hours of talk time and up to 100 hours of standby time.
Capable of supporting the detachable Bluetooth module on either ear, the RAZRWIRE boasts a frame made of Oakley’s proprietary O-Luminum, an alloy 40 percent lighter than titanium. Custom engineered spring hinges provide an adaptable fit, and according to Oakley its proprietary Unobtainium components increase grip with perspiration whilst the inclusion of Plutonite lenses filters out 100 percent of UV and harmful blue light.
The semi-rimless construction of the lens and frame meets all ANSI Z87.1 standards for impact protection, with the RAZRWIRE also capable of accomodating Oakley prescription lenses with an optional prescription lens adapter.
To be available at select Cingular Wireless retail locations as well as online from Motorola and Oakley in early August, the RAZRWIRE eyewear will sell for $294.99 USD. This includes the sunglasses, Bluetooth module and a wall charging unit, with the glasses initially available in three color frame/lens color combinations, including Platinum/Gold Iridium, Pewter/Black Iridium and Mercury/Gray.
