Boasting a 1.3 Megapixel camera, 1xEV-DO high speed data, Bluetooth and a miniSD card slot for memory expansion, Verizon adds the new LG VX8100 clamshell to its portfolio.

Bringing yet another handset to its V CAST enabled line-up of handsets, Verizon Wireless today announced the July 15 availability of the new LG VX8100 handset. A silver and navy blue clamshell, the VX8100 offers an array of advanced functionality including video messaging, high-speed data transfer, a 1.3 Megapixel camera and more.

An 800/1900 MHz digital dual-band handset, the VX8100 supports Verizon's CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network which offers data transfer speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps. It also sports dual colour display, the internal of which is of the 262K colour TFT variety with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels, whilst the external offers 65K colour depth and a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels.

Also equipped with Bluetooth for short-range wireless connectivity, the VX8100 integrates a miniSD Card expansion slot for adding more memory beyond the integrated 64 MB of non-volatile memory and 32 MB of volatile memory of the handset. This can be used in conjunction with the 1.3 Megapixel camera of the VX8100, which records video in addition to shooting stills, or alternatively to play audio through the external stereo speakers of the handset.

Other highlights include speaker phone, a 500 contact phone book that stores up to five phone numbers and two e-mail addresses per contact, 72-chord polyphonic sound, personal organizer and more. Additionally, the VX8100 is capable of Video Messaging, allowing Verizon Wireless customers to take up to 15 seconds of video with the integrated camera and send their clips to other Verizon Wireless video-capable phones or to an e-mail address. Other mobile media features include Mobile Web 2.0 capability, mobile Instant Messaging (IM), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) and Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS).

The the VX8100 is also optimized for Verizon Wireless' V CAST service, enabling the over-the-air reception of video clips from news, sports and entertainment outlets, as well as 3D games.

Measuring in at 3.58" x 1.92" x 1.03" and a weight of 4.16 oz, LG claims a talk time of up to 3.7 hours and standby time of up to 6.8 days from the VX8100. To sell for $199.99 USD with a two-year service agreement the LG VX8100 is now immediately available from Verizon Wireless.
