The latest handset from Siemens tucks a 1.3 MP camera, EDGE, Bluetooth, USB and an audio player coupled with 52 MB of memory into a small and elegant slider design.

Refreshing its line of slider handsets, Siemens today announced the SL75, a successor to its SL65 which boasts a number of improvements over its predecessor. Focusing on high-end features in a compact form factor, the new handset integrates a 1.3 Megapixel digital camera along with Bluetooth, a multi-format audio player and support for USB for wired data transfers.

Measuring in at 92 x 48 x 23 mm and squeezing in just below the 100 g mark with a 1 g margin, the tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz handset supports CSD as well as GPRS and EDGE up to Class 10 as well as over-the-air firmware upgrades. For shorter-range connectivity, the handset boasts Bluetooth and USB, enabling both tethered and wireless data transfers.

A 1.8-inch transflective TFT display with 262K colours and a resolution of 132 x 176 pixels assumes a prominent position on the front half of the slider, under which a set of navigational buttons are placed to allow for use of the handset in its closed position. Unsurprisingly, the keypad of the SL75 slides down from the back to allow for dialing, texting and more advanced interaction.

Offering a 1.3 Megapixel camera, the SL75 also integrates a LED photo light and 5x digital zoom, enabling still shots as well as video recording. Also capable of video streaming, the handset supports H.263, MPEG4 and Real Video 8 formats, harbouring a total of 52 MB of onboard memory for storing various data. Also on board is an audio player supporting MP3, AAC and AAC+ formats.

Further on the note of software, the SL75 also contains an organizer for appointments, tasks and notes, as well as a newly designed address book that displays SIM entries and phone numbers combined. Also included is video ringtones, a WAP 2.0 microbrowser, support for J2ME MIDP 2.0, a 3D Java accelerator and Wireless Village-based instant messaging and presence support.

According to Siemens, the 720 mAh Lithium Ion battery of the SL75 will enable a standby time of up to 300 hours and a talk time of up to 300 minutes.

Slated for introduction to the European market in October 2005 in 'Onyx Black' and 'Pure Silver' colour schemes, the SL75 will retail for approximately €400 EUR. Furthermore, Siemens intends to inttoduce a winter edition of the handset dubbed 'Polar White' in December.
