Only 53 mm tall, Acer's new and full-featured Aspire L200 Media Center PC boasts a hybrid DVB-T and analog tuner, Dual Layer DVD optical drive and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.
Marking the first Media Center PC from the company to feature a rack component form factor, Acer has introduced the Aspire L200. Powered by an Athlon 64 3200+ processor, the slim-looking unit runs Microsoft's Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 backed up by 512 MB of DDR RAM expandable up to 4 GB and a 160 GB, 7,200 RPM SATA hard drive.
Measuring in at a svelte 430 x 266 x 53 mm, the component-size media PC sees its visual and audible experience powered by a 128 MB ATI Radeon Xpress200 graphics card in conjunction with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and a combo DVB-T/analog tuner supporting PAL and SECAM. Its DVB-T reception capability renders it compatible with the Freeview offering in the UK, among other services.
The Aspire L200 plays host to a broad number of connectivity options, including Composite and S-Video in as well as out; SPDIF coaxial out for digital audio; VGA out; four front-mounted and four rear-mounted USB 2.0 ports; one front-mounted, 4-pin FireWire (IEEE1394) jack; and one rear-mounted, 6-pin FireWire jack. In addition, the L200 also integrates 10/100/1000 Ethernet and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.
Also available for offloading media from the L200 is a Dual Layer DVD-RW optical slot drive, with bundled peripherals including a wireless keyboard with built-in pointing device and a dedicated Media Center remote control. According to Acer, the Aspire L200 does not exceed a noise level of 28 decibels, and for good measure includes Norton AntiVirus 2005 as well as CyberLink's popular PowerDVD 5.0 software.
Due out this summer in major European markets, the Acer Aspire 200 is expected to sell in the £800 GBP range, or €1,200.
