The TravelMate 3000 is Acer's slimmest and lightest ultraportable to date, featuring a 1.73 GHz processor, up to 2 GB of RAM, 12.1" widescreen and a 60 GB hard drive.
Further slimming its ultraportable offerings, Acer has unveiled the three-pound TravelMate 3000 notebook series, built around a 12.1" widescreen display. One notch down from the TravelMate 3200 series, the 3000 offers an Intel Pentium M 740 processor running at 1.73 GHz in tandem with up to 2 GB of RAM and the sole choice of a 60 GB hard drive.
At a mere three pounds, the 3000 series is Acer's lightest TravelMate laptop to date, with the 12.1" WXGA widescreen display playing one of the key roles in reducing size. Delivering a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, it is powered by an Intel GMA900 chip with DirectX 9 support, sharing up to 128 MB of memory with the system's main memory.
Running Windows XP Professional, the 60 GB hard drive of the TravelMate 3000 series is supplemented by an optical combo DVD+/-RW drive. Further on the note of connectivity, the TravelMate 3000 also integrates Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and Fast Infrared on the wireless side; three USB 2.0 ports, FireWire (IEEE1394), 10/100/1000 Ethernet and a 56K V.92 modem, as well as VGA and SPDIF out.
Additionally, the TravelMate 3000 series is also equipped with a single PCMCIA Type II expansion slot, as well as a SmartCart reader and port replicator option, and also come bundled with a 4-in-1 PCMCIA memory card reader for which details concerning supported formats were not available at the time of press.
Following availability in Europe as of mid-March, the TravelMate 3000 is immediately available throughout North America starting at approximately $1,399 USD.
