Nintendo DS to get Internet multiplayerBy Jørgen Sundgot, Thursday 12 May 2005

Expanding the multiplayer capabilities of its latest-generation portable gaming console, Nintendo has announced a partnership with IGN Entertainment to bring wireless multiplayer gaming over the Internet to the Nintendo DS. The service, due out later this year, marks IGN's first foray into portable gaming, and will not require an added subscription free from Nintendo.

The new service will allow users to connect and carry out multiplayer sessions over connections to Wi-Fi hot spots and the Internet, whereas the existing capabilities of the DS are limited to local ad-hoc networks supporting up to 16 players.
