Jumping feet first into increasingly crowded waters, notebook maker Averatec has launched its smallest-yet ultraportable product line, the 1000 Series. To be available with screen covers in a range of colours, the 1000 Series is based around a 10.6", widescreen display with the company's AveraBrite LCD technology, Intel Pentium M processors and large hard drives.
Compact and lightweight, the Averatec 1000 Series weighs in at 3.6 pounds or 1.6 KG, measuring a minute 10.5" x 8" x 1.2" or 266 x 203 x 29 mm. Running either Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional, the ultraportable is available with a choice of either an Intel Pentium M 373 processor running at 1 GHz or a Pentium M 773 processor running at 1.1 GHz.
Available with hard drives either 60 or 80 GB in size, the 1000 Series comes with 512 MB of RAM, 64 MB of which is shared with the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 chip powering the unit's 10.6" widescreen TFT display with a WXGA resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. This, in turn, is joined by a DVD+/CD-RW burner and an integrated four-in-one media reader supporting SD, MMC, Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro formats.
Despite its small size, the Averatec 1000 Series also plays host to a number of connectivity options, including 10/100 Ethernet and a 56K V.90 modem, two USB 2.0 ports, an IEEE1394 (FireWire) port, and a Type II PCMCIA expansion slot. Also on the docket is Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, as well as VGA out and a Lithium Ion battery from which Averatec claims up to 5 hours of battery life.
Available now in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Taiwan, the Averatec 1000 Series starts at 1400 EUR.
