The all-time favourite game console returns in a silver incarnation to European shores: meet the Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Satin Silver edition.

Following its introduction of a slimline version of the original PlayStation 2 in November last year, Sony has now unwrapped a silver edition of the popular console to go on sale in Europe later this month. To sell alongside the traditional black edition, the Slimline Silver Satin edition comes with a similarly coloured controller, but is otherwise identical to the previously introduced black slimline version.

Originally introduced in November last year, the slimline version of the PlayStation 2 has had its volume reduced by 75% over the original model, with its thickness coming down to 2.8 cm as opposed to the 7.8 cm of the original console. Also, unlike the original, the slimline version integrates an Ethernet networking port for network gaming.

For those bent on keeping it all in style, Sony will also proffer satin silver versions of the PS2 vertical stand, DVD remote control and even the EyeToy USB camera. Similar to the console itself, these models offer no changes in their feature set but are merely differently coloured versions of the same accessories already available in black.

The new Satin Silver model will be available throughout Europe from May 13th, and will sell alongside the current black model at a recommended retail price of 159 EUR or £115 GBP in the UK.
