U.S. mobile network operator Cellular One to carry 6255i clamshell from Nokia: features include an FM radio, memory expansion and Bluetooth.
Nokia and Western Wireless have announced the retail introduction of the Nokia 6255i, a successor to last year's 6255 model which offers marginal feature improvements over its predecessor. Available through mobile network operator Cellular One in the U.S., the 6255i is one of Nokia's more advanced handsets for the U.S. Market, featuring dual colour screens, memory expansion and audio playback capabilities.
The tri-mode 6255i supports 850 MHz AMPS networks as well as 850/1900 MHz CDMA networks and comes equipped with CDMA2000 1xRTT for high speed data connectivity and AGPS for E911 services. Also on the connectivity roster is Bluetooth, with the 6255i becoming one of very few Bluetooth-equipped CDMA handsets which have not had their functionality crippled.
A clamshell handset, the 6255i measures in at 3.4 x 1.9 x 1 inches and weighs 4.2 oz. Dual colour screens are present, with the internal display boasting a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels and 65K colours, whilst the external offers 4K colours and a resolution of 96 x 65 pixels. These are joined by an integrated 0.3 megapixel digtal camera with flash capable of both shooting stills and recording video.
Also present in the 6255i is a stereo FM radio as well as an MP3/AAC compatible audio player, the latter of which is certain to benefit from the MMC card expansion slot also found in the handset. Other highlights include support for BREW, as well as speakerphone capabilities, voice command/dialing and PC synchronization. With a 1070 mAh Lithium Ion battery, Nokia claims a digital talk time of up to 3 hours and standby time of up to 11 days for the 6255i.
The Nokia 6255i is immediately available from Cellular One starting at $149.99 USD with a 2-year service agreement.
