Supplementing its comprehensive arsenal of handsets, Samsung has now begun shipping the P207 voice recognition-capable handset through mobile network operator Cingular Wireless in the U.S. Equipped with technology from VoiceSignal, the handset is capable of not only navigating the menu interface by means of voice, but also transcribing spoken sentences to messages and e-mails.
With a built-in dictionary, users are required to train the P207 through a series of spoken prompts that captures voice tone and intonation. Following initial training, users can begin dictating messages, with the system continuing to improve its adaptation over time. Also, users can dictate the name of a recipient from the phone book of the handset, or alternatively input a number digit by digit.
A tri-band GSM 850/1800/1900 MHz handset, the P207 also offers additional features beyond its voice recognition capabilities, such as support for GPRS and EDGE high-speed data connectivity. Also, the P207 features an integrated 0.3 Megapixel camera also capable of recording video, as well as polyphonic and MP3 ringtones, MMS and instant messaging.
The Samsung P207 is now available from Cingular Wireless for $80 USD with a 2-year service plan.
