Who needs standalone audio players anyway? GPX' new SportX HW6805DT headphones combine a microSD expansion slot with support for MP3 and WMA.
Having come a long way from Sony's original Walkman, portable audio players are these days small marvels of engineering - decreasing in size by the month. Apparently, however, small isn't small enough for everyone, which is the backdrop for GPX' introduction of its SportX HW6805DT headphones, foregoing a standalone audio player entirely in favour of integrated music playback capabilities.
Sporting a rugged behind-the-head design, the HW6805DT support playback of MP3 and WMA audio formats either from its 128 MB of built-in memory, or alternatively through expansion cards in the TransFlash/microSD format. Complete with PD-DRM features, the headphones also boast an integrated FM radio, and let users transfer music courtesy of USB 2.0 compatibility as a USB Mass Storage Device.
According to GPX, the HW6805DT is powered by a user replaceable Lithium Ion battery, however the company did not make any claims as to its expected battery life. The HW6805DT is slated for availability in the U.S. in May 2005, and will sell at an estimated retail price of $99 USD.
