Leaving competitors in the dust, Archos' due-out-shortly AV700 portable media viewer offers a whopping 7" display coupled with up to 100 GB of storage.

Improving on its already comprehensive line-up of portable media viewers, Archos this week offered a sneak peek of its new top model to be available shortly, the AV700. Due out in June in the UK, the AV700 improves on its predecessor, the PMA430, by adding a 7" display comparable to that of the current leader in display size, the MobiNote DVX-POD 7010.

Similar to the PMA430, the AV700 will be able to play back video on its 7" internal display as well as output video to compatible TV sets, and is also capable of recording video through means of a docking pod which is expected to be bundled with the device.

Also offering USB Host capabilities to allow devices such as digital cameras to connect and transfer images directly to the device without the need for a PC, the AV700 will be offered in 40 GB and 100 GB editions.

Slated for availability in June in the UK and other large European markets, the AV700 40 GB edition will sell for 400 GBP, or $750 USD, while the 100 GB edition will sell for 600 GBP, or $1150 USD.
