Keeping up with competitors, BenQ's Joybook A82 offers a 16:10 format 15.4" WXGA display, 2.13 GHz processor and 128 MB of video RAM. Jørgen Sundgot leers.
You'd think 16:9 would be wide enough for most manufacturers, but apparently there's no way satisfying humanity's ever-expanding need for bigger, wider, faster, taller and soforth. Recently, a number of laptop makers have unveiled plans to introduce notebooks with displays in 16:10 format, and Taiwan-based BenQ took advantage of this year's CeBIT to unveil its contribution: the Joybook A82.

Revealing precious little detail, BenQ has decided to share only the most obvious aspects concerning the configuration of the A82 such as its 15.4" display in the aforementioned 16:10 widescreen format. Sporting 220 nits of brightness and WXGA resolution, BenQ claims a very wide viewing angle from the display, which I can personally testify to being correct after having played around it for a few moments at CeBIT.
Powered by an ATI Mobility Radeon X600 with choices of either 64 or 128 MB of dedicated video RAM, the A82 appeared to have no issues in the performance department - which can also be attributed to its processor. Of the Intel Pentium M variety, the A82 will be delivered with speeds ranging from 1.6 through 2.13 GHz; unfortunately, there is no word on which hard drive capacities will be available.

Lastly, the A82 will aos come with a laser pointer remote and BenQ's QPresentation software for business users, as well as QMedia Center software and SRS 3D surround sound to cater to the needs of gamers. Remaining as tight-lipped with regard to availability and pricing as with regard to features, BenQ would only confirm that the A82 is expected to be available in 2005.
