Jørgen Sundgot breaks out his boogie moves with Samsung's JH70 at CeBIT, a 20/30 GB portable audio player which also dabbles in video.
Is it just me, or is the market for portable audio players getting awfully crowded these days? Rhetorics aside, we're soon getting to where you can't see the forest for trees - or hear the music for players. Samsung's YH-J70 is another bid in the fight to win your attention, and as far as I'm concerned it's not a bad one; but could everyone please just give up on squeezing video onto screens smaller than two inches already?
Equipped with either a 20 GB or 30 GB hard drive, the YH-J70 is a moderately attractive player which comes in either black or white. The former is undoubtedly the better-looking of the two, and it doesn't hurt that a exquisite little 1.8" TFT colour display graces its front with 262K colours. If you thought audio was all the YH-J70 could pull off, however, I'm afraid you're gravely mistaken.

Of course, with support for MP3, Windows Media Audio, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and Audio ASF, music is what the YH-J70 does best. But with support for JPEG, it's also a photo viewer - and MPEG4 support suddenly earns it a technical categorization as a portable video player - albeit a ridiculous one since watching video on the tiny display is, albeit amusing, not particularly pleasant in the long run. Trust me, I tried.
Still, photo viewing is a pleasant experience with rapid refresh rates, and apparently the YH-J70 also will contain gaming functionality - which unfortunately was not available at the time of writing. I also doubt the user interface would be suited for this purpose; it's not the most intuitive to begin with, and the use of a vertical rocker as opposed to a proper four-way navigational pad would complicate such use further.

According to Samsung, the YH-J70 will offers 25 hours of playback on a charge, and also comes with USB 2.0 connectivity and support for USB Host to enable it to double as an on-the-go storage medium.
