It's arguably the best-looking phone in Siemens' new 75 series line-up despite being a mid-range model; Jørgen Sundgot feels up the CX75 at CeBIT.
In the name of bluntness, I think we can all agree that it took Siemens a while to crank out a set of phones that didn't look, shall we say, less than good. Fortunately, the handset maker has carried out something of a turnaround as of late, with last year's S65 model being outright lustworthy. The CX75, introduced today at the ongoing CeBIT fair in Hannover, Germany, might not have the same suave styling, but nonetheless looks good in its own right.
Having played with what is destined to be a mid-range handset by the time it arrives, I have to admit I took quite a liking to the CX75. Sporting a light grey colour scheme, the handset is quite comparable to the S65 with its 1.3 Megapixel camera, Bluetooth support, tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz and GPRS Class 10.

A wee bit small when compared to a battery of recently introduced high-end models, the 262K colour screen of the CX75 is quite an alright affair with above-par resolution and fully adequate brightness and clarity. As with previous models, its use as a viewfinder is slightly hampered by a poor frame rate, but being of the TFT variety visibility should be quite good both indoors and outdoors.
Pitching the CX75 as a multimedia handset, Siemens is touting the built-in audio and video player, however neither impress to any degree given the size and resolution of the screen, plus the fact that audio out is limited to a Siemens proprietary connector. Fortunately, users can expand the 14 MB of built-in memory by means of an RS-MMC card slot, and Bluetooth allows for both synchronizing limited PIM data with Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes as well as sharing pictures and using a headset.

On-phone software includes an organizer suite and support SMS, MMS and Push-To-Talk, as well as a brand new blogging client which uploads text, pictures and audio to a Siemens-powered service. There's even 3D games to be played, but although amusing the ones available weren't particularly impressive - which was to be expected.
Mum's the word on the CX75's pricing, however according to Siemens the handset will be priced in the mid-range and is to be available from June 2005 in two colour schemes: grey metallic and silvery beige. Granted, it's not a phone you'll be slobbering over, but then again not all handsets can be like the Siemens SXG75, either.
