Offering competitors a view of its rear, Samsung flashes its new, 82-inch LCD TV as the world's largest, topping the previous record with 17 inches.
Making a considerable leap in inches from the Korean manufacturer's last world-largest LCD display, a 57" model shown in December of 2003, Samsung has now unveiled an 82" model which tops that of the current record holder - a 65" model by Sharp - with a whopping 17". Still, customers will have to wait to get their hands on the giant display, as Samsung does not expect to start mass production until 18 months from now.

Hoping to break into the market for flat panel displays, Samsung is betting on LCD technology rather than Plasma technology which thus far has proven the most popular with customers due to lower costs. LCD technology is rapidly improving, however, and recent models from a number of manufacturers rival comparable Plasmal display in both price and features.
The 82" display, once available, will feature a contrast ratio of 1200:1 and a brightness ratio of 600 knit, as well as a rapid 8 ms response time and - according to Samsung - 92% accuracy in colour reproduction.
