Casio's Exilim Pro EX-P505 swivels with styleBy Jørgen Sundgot, Monday 31 January 2005
Casio's new Exilim Pro EX-P505 boasts a tilt-and-swivel 2" LCD display, MPEG4 video recording capabilities and 5 MP resolution.

Casio has released the newest model in its popular Exilim series of digital cameras, the EX-P505. Equipped with a 5.0 Megapixel CCD imaging element and a 5x optical zoom, the EX-P505 is Casio's first camera to incorporate a swiveling LCD display, also featuring MPEG4 video recording in VGA resolution.

The little brother of the 6.0 Megapixel Exilim EX-P600, which featured a lesser 4x optical zoom but higher resolution, the EX-P505 shares many of its features such as user selectable aperture, shutter speed and other effects. The 5x optical zoom lens has macro capability down to 1 cm, as well as aperture priority or shutter priority automatic setting, along with manual exposure mode for full manual operation.

In addition, the EX-P505 also offers 22 pre-set configurations selectable by examples, and boasts a 0.8 second start-up time; 0.01 second shutter release lag; and 0.1 second picture playback interval. An integrated pop-up flash is automatically triggered when needed, as is the camera's power upon opening or closening its LCD display. v Utilizing MPEG4, the EX-P505 can record video at up to 30 FPS and a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, also utilizing sample scene functionality to allow for the activation of preset configurations. Compatible with PictBridge, the camera features USB 2.0 for PC connectivity, and utilizes SD/MMC Cards for storing data.

Capable of playing back both stills and video through a composite video out connector, the EX-P505 offers a battery life of up to 220 pictures per charge by the CIPA standard, as well as up to 2 hours of video recording. The camera measures in at a relatively sizeable 3.9" x 2.2" x 2.9", weighing 7.58 oz without battery.

Slated for availability at the end of February in North America, the Exilim EX-P505 will sell for $499.99 USD.
