It's The Lawnmower Man all over again: the new, OLED-based Z800 3D Visor from eMagin shows virtual reality is still alive and kicking.
eMagin, a manufacturer of OLED (organic light-emitting diode) microdisplays, has introduced the first personal display system to combine OLED technology with head-tracking and 3D stereovision. Powered by a USB port, the Z800 3D Visor weighs in at less than 8 oz and offers SVGA resolution.
The Z800 3D Visor incorporates two 3D OLED displays, both with a resolution of 800 x 600 x 3 pixels for an experience which eMagin equivalent to viewing a 105-inch screen at twelve feet. In addition, the visor uses head tracking to permit 360 degree horizontal tracking and 60 degree vertical tracking, drawing power from any standard USB port.

For gamers, the Z800 automatically detects left-eye and right-eye stereovision signals, adding depth and perspective to games - or other applications - utilizing 3D graphics
The eMagin Z800 3D Visor will be available in the second quarter of 2005, and is expected to retail for $899 USD.
