Sony's slimmest shooter to date, the DSC-T33By Jørgen Sundgot, Friday 7 January 2005
Already skinnier than the most wafer-thin of super models, Sony's latest incarnation of its Cyber-shot T series, the DSC-T33, shaves yet more off its slender design.

Skimping on size but not features, Sony has introduced yet another version of its Cyber-shot T-series, the DSC-T33. Following on the heels of its predecessor, the DSC-T3, specifications for the DSC-T33 remain largely unchanged as the camera retains a 5.1 Megapixel CCD and 2.5" Hybrid LCD display, with the only changes represented by slight alterations to its form factor and the introduction of more case colours.

Featuring 3x optical and 6x digital zoom, the DSC-T33 makes use of a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar zoom lens, which as with previous models folds within the body to keep the exterior as thin as possible. A 1 cm macro mode will let users get up close and personal, whilst a start-up time of 1.3 s, shutter time lag of 0.23 s and shutter release lag of 0.009 s allow for quick operation.

Users will be able to choose from nine scene selection modes which set automatic exposure, aperture and shutter speed for a variety of conditions and environments, and also manually adjust white balance, colour saturation, sharpness and contrast settings for individual preference. Storage, as always, remains via Sony's proprietary Memory Stick Duo and Duo PRO formats, whilst connectivity is provided by USB 2.0 and PictBridge compatibility for direct-to-printer output.

Capable of taking stills at resolutions up to 2592 x 1944, the DSC-T33 also offers 30-FPS video recording with audio in MPEG format at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. Measuring in at 99 x 61 x 21 mm and 125 g, Sony claims a battery life of up to 180 shots as measured by the CIPA standard.

The Cyber-shot DSC-T33 will be available throughout Europe in late January 2005. North America, meanwhile, will see availability of the DSC-T33 in March for approximately $450 USD.
