Verizon Wireless is now offering its own version of the Audiovox 6601 communicator, dubbed the XV6600. But Verizon has gone a step further and included 1xEV-DO support.
Verizon Wireless is now offering the Audiovox-built XV6600 Windows Mobile communicator, complete with sliding thumbboard, Bluetooth, and 1xEV-DO wireless support.

The XV6600 is largely the same as the Sprint-branded Sprint PPC-6601, also built by Audiovox. A tablet-design communicator running Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003 Phone Edition, the XV6600 offers a sliding case to reveal a QWERTY thumbboard as well as connectivity via Bluetooth or an SDIO-capable Secure Digital card slot. The 240 x 320 QVGA display is backed by 64 MB of ROM and 128 MB of RAM and a 400 MHz Intel XScale processor. Both units are close cousins of the GSM/GPRS-based O2 XDA IIs, T-Mobile MDA III, Siemens SX66, and others. Unlike the GSM version, however, the XV660 includes neither a camera nor Wi-Fi connectivity.
Verizon Wireless has gone a step further, however, by including 1xEV-DO wireless support. CDMA 1xEV-DO is an evolution of the standard CDMA 1xRTT service used by virtually all CDMA carriers that offers considerably improved speed, 300-500 kbps according to Verizon Wireless, qualifying it as 3G. In areas covered by Verizon's BroadbandAccess service the XV6600 will make use of the faster 1xEV-DO service while falling back to 1xRTT speeds in other areas.
The XV6600 will be available in January through Verizon Wireless for $549.99 USD with a two-year service agreement.
