Ericsson has released version 5.0 of its Ericsson Mobile Organizer (EMO) software for Symbian OS and Windows Mobile devices. EMO is a PIM synchronization suite that supports e-mail and calendar data and offers push-based updates. Push updating involves a mail or groupware server contacting a client device when there is data to update rather than the client device polling the server for updates on some fixed schedule. EMO 5.0 includes end-to-end encryption and compression.
EMO 5.0 will run on most Symbian or Windows Mobile smartphones, and is available in Enterprise, Professional, and Internet editions for varying levels or server tie-in. Pricing information is not available.
