Nokia 6235 offers CDMA, MP3 ringtonesBy Larry Garfield, Thursday 18 November 2004
Nokia has added another pair of CDMA handsets to their portfolio, offering MP3 and AAC ringtones, a camera, all of the usual features one expects.

Nokia has announced two new handsets, the nearly identical Nokia 6235 and Nokia 6235i.

The Nokia 6235 supports MP3 and AAC ringtones
The Nokia 6235 is a slender candybar phone measuring 105.5 x 42.3 x 18 mm and weighing 98 grams. Its feature set should be familiar to most buyers these days, including a 16-bit color TFT display measuring 128 x 128 pixels and a traditional-looking keypad. The included camera is VGA 640 x 480 pixel quality and capable of recording small video clips as well, and the phone also supports video streaming over the network. It includes a speakerphone as well as support for MP3-based or AAC-based ringtones, still a rarity for most mobile phones, and comes with 10 MB of RAM to back up the camera and all those MP3 ringtones.

The 6235 runs on dual-band CDMA 800 / 1900 MHz networks. The 6235i also supports analog AMPS networks and supports location-based services via assisted GPS. Both phones support Java for downloadable games, with the 6235i also supporting BREW-based applications. Data service is provided via 1xRTT, and include Nokia's trademark FM radio as well. Naturally they both include a WAP browser, photo caller ID, and SMS/MMS support. The 1070 mAh Lithium Ion battery is rated for 3.5 hours talk time or 12 days standby.

Both the Nokia 6235 and Nokia 6235i are expected to be available in all CDMA markets - including the USA, South America, and parts of Asia-Pacific - in the first quarter of 2005. Pricing information was not available.
