Clio line of palmtops revivedBy Jørgen Sundgot, Wednesday 17 November 2004
Making an unlikely comeback, Data Evolution is reviving the five-year old Clio line of palmtops with the introduction of the Clio NXT, offering a high-end feature set.

Five years after the introduction of the original Clio palmtop, at the time powered by Microsoft's long-since defunct Windows CE Handheld PC platform, a dedicated Clio fanbase and unsuspecting handheld community are witness to the unlikely comeback of a much-loved palmtop series and its unusual design.

Still featuring the same 180 degree pivoting display and 9.4" screen as the original Clio, both features of which contributed greatly to its success, the Clio NXT from Data Evolution offers an updated feature set which brings the palmtop on par with competing offerings from other manufacturers in the handheld and palmtop space.

Data Evolution Clio NXT

A 400 MHz Intel processor will power the unit, which now runs on Microsoft's Windows CE .NET 4.2 Professional platform and has gained support for Wi-Fi 802.11b. In addition, the unit features USB connectivity and multiple memory slots, although Data Evolution did not comment further which expansion formats will be supported.

According to the company, additional details concerning the feature set of the Clio NXT will be released in the coming weeks - however, given the physical similarity between the NXT and its predecessor, the Clio-C1050, it would be natural to expect IrDA and LAN connectivity from the NXT, along with support for handwriting recognition to supplement the near full-size keyboard of the unit.

The Company expects to begin shipping the Clio NXT in early 2005, however no information was made available concerning its expected pricing.
