pulling its Zaurus line out of North America, Sharp has issued a new statement regarding the future of its Linux-based handhelds. Specifically, the company now says that it "does not plan to develop a successor model of the current SL-6000 Zaurus in the immediate future", but that it will "make the Zaurus SL-6000 available to existing corporate customers in the US" as long as there is demand.

The company's previous statement was that it had decided " to cycle out of business development activities for the Zaurus SL6000 handheld mobile data device in the United States", and that "Sharp will not add additional products to the Zaurus line in the United States". It currently appears that the Zaurus line is dead in the United States except for existing corporate customers, who will continue to have access to new units of the SL-6000 model for as long as their contracts last.">

Sharp backtracks on Zaurus pull-out plansBy Larry Garfield, Wednesday 3 November 2004
After initially stating last month that it would be pulling its Zaurus line out of North America, Sharp has issued a new statement regarding the future of its Linux-based handhelds.

It currently appears that the Zaurus line is dead in the United States except for existing corporate customers, who will continue to have access to new units of the SL-6000 model for as long as their contracts last.
