IntelliSync is aiming to unseat RIM for wireless PIM synchronization with their latest suite, with support for any device and most native applications.
IntelliSync has announced their new corporate synchronization suite, Mobile Suite 6, which aims to out-do the RIM BlackBerry model for wireless data synchronization.
What will differentiate IntelliSync Mobile Suite 6 from the RIM BlackBerry system is its use of native applications. RIM recently lauched the BlackBerry Connect program for most platforms, to develop native Palm OS, Windows Mobile, and Symbian BlackBerry clients that can connect to BlackBerry servers to receive push e-mail.
As opposed to the RIM BlackBerry Connect solution, the IntelliSync system applies a driver on the device to synchronize the native PIM and e-mail clients directly to IntelliSync's server offering, allowing for a more native look and feel.
The exception is the Palm OS operating system, for which IntelliSync has written a dedicated application centered around wireless e-mail as the company did not find VersaMail to offer sufficient wireless support to be used as a platform for its offerings.
The other major difference that Mobile Suite 6 claims is an XML-based extension framework that allows corporate IT departments to use IntelliSync as the backend and middleware to link up native Palm OS, Windows Mobile, and Symbian applications with back end application servers such as CRM databases. The IntelliSync software handles the intermediary synchronization.
Other features of the suite include support for any IMAP4-capable device, including mobile phones, and SyncML 1.2 support. Deployment is aided by remote web-based installation and centralized management, alieviating the need for IT departments to individually install the client on each device manually. It also supports Unicode for international characters and comes in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish versions.
