Microsoft today announced that it has released Pocket Streets 2005 for its Windows Mobile platforms including Pocket PC and Smartphone. Powered by MapPoint technology, users can generate maps for Pocket Streets using MapPoint 2004 or later, Microsoft Streets & Trips 2004 or later, or AutoRoute 2004 or later. Alternatively, users can also turn to Microsoft’s downloadable maps of major cities.
Pocket Streets 2005 offers GPS support for both Pocket PC and Smartphone devices, and will be compatible with new downloadable maps available only to Pocket Streets 2005 customers for more than 575 cities in North America, Western Europe, Australia, Brazil and Greece. According to Microsoft, a new measurement scale feature will help users more accurately determine the distance between locations, whilst a new user interface aims to simplify tasks such as switching between maps and GPS information, and enable maps to be opened without the need for File Explorer.
