Siemens has launched two new phones in the US market based on previously successful European models, with the US versions dubbed the CT66 and S66.

The CT66 is based on the model of the CX65. A candybar phone, it offers a 16-bit color screen and integrated VGA camera. There is no flash, but a flash accessory is available separately. The phone also includes SMS and MMS support as well as instant messaging support, although Siemens does not say which network.
At 85 grams the CT66 is on the light-end of the current market. It runs on tri-band 850/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS networks and supports most of the typical features one expects from a modern phone, including 40-chord polyphonic ring tones, a speakerphone, and Java support for downloadable games. Siemens lists the Lithium-Ion battery as capable of five hours talk time or 250 hours standby.
Further up the market is the new S66, based on the Siemens S65 European model. Also a candybar design, it goes beyond the CT66 by offering a 1.3 megapixel integrated camera capable of both still images and video clips. It sports a 5-step digital zoom and can record video at up to 15 frames per second.

The S66 also includes Bluetooth support for connecting to a handheld, headset, or other phone and can transfer pictures to and from other phones directly (presuming that feature has not been disabled by the carrier). The phone also includes a Reduced-Size MultiMedia Card (RS-MMC) slot and comes with a 32 MB RS-MMC card. RS-MMC is a miniature version of MMC, the predecessor of Secure Digital, and is not yet widely used.
As with the CT66, the 99 gram S66 includes most standard features. That includes polyphonic ringtones, a speakerphone, and Java support for downloadable games. The Lithium-Ion battery is rated for 250 hours stanby or 5 hours talk time, while the radio runs on tri-band GSM/GPRS 850/1800/1900 MHz networks.
Both phones are slated for availability in October, although price and supporting carriers were not announced.
