Audiovox CDM-9900 hits Verizon WirelessBy Larry Garfield, Saturday 2 October 2004
A QVGA screen marks the latest multimedia-centric phone on Verizon's network, Audiovox's CDM-9900 with digital video and camera.

Audiovox has launched a new multimedia-centric handset, the camera-sporting and large-screen CDM-9900.

The CDM-9900 has a surprising QVGA display
The CDM-9900 is a clamshell phone measuring 92.9 x 48.0 x 24.1 mm and weighing a hefty 116 grams. That bulk, however, offers a 2.2-inch QVGA 240 x 320 18-bit color display, a surprisingly high resolution for a phone. The phone also sports a small 16-bit STN color display on the front cover for photo caller ID, an increasingly common feature on high-end phones.

The CDM-9900 also sports a VGA camera with flash that can take both still images and 15-second video clips. Both images and video clips can be sent to other users through Verizon's network. Other features include a speakerphone and voice-dialing support, in addition to the now ubiquitous downloadable ringtones, wallpapers, voice memo, a 300-entry phone book, and T9 text input. The phone supports CDMA and analog networks, while the 1100 mAh battery is rated for 3 hours talk time or 360 hours standby.

The CDM-9900 is available now through Verizon Wireless in the United States for $49.99 USD with two-year service contract.

Additional high-resolution images of the CDM-9900 are available on the following page.
