IXI Mobile and AT&T Wireless have launched a text-centric device aimed at those who keep their fingers moving, and a surprising price.
In an alphabet soup move worthy of any elementary school student's breakfast, IXI Mobile and AT&T Wireless have launched the OGO, a Portable Mobile Gateway (PMG) that supports four different text transport systems from SMS to AIM.

The OGO is based on IXI-Connect OS from IXI Mobile, and is part of IXI's PMG multi-device design. A clamshell design measuring 115 x 75.0 x 2.5 mm and weighing 136 grams, the OGO features a 4096-color display with QWERTY thumbboard and 8-way navigator for input. Unlike most communicators it does not include voice support but focuses exclusively on providing a mobile text communication platform.
Targeted at the youth and enthusiast market, the OGO includes a multi-IM client that supports the AIM, MSN, and Yahoo instant messaging protocols as well as SMS messaging. It also includes an integrated e-mail client that supports any POP3 account and can connect ot AOL, MSN, and Yahoo mail systems for a monthly fee. The device includes a unified inbox for both incoming instant messages and emails.
Running on AT&T Wireless' GSM/GPRS network, the OGO also includes most features familiar to desktop instant messengers, including customizable tones and notifications for different accounts and contacts as well as visual notification. It also includes self-activation features so that new buyers can activate a month-by-month account by credit card without visiting a store and without an annual service contract.
The OGO is available now for $99 USD after $30 USD mail-in rebate. Monthly service plans start at $17.99 USD per month and include email and IM support for one provider (AOL, MSN, or Yahoo). Adding email and IM support for additional providers costs $3 USD per month, although direct POP3 accounts are free.
