Nokia adds GPS to its accessory portfolio with the Wireless GPS Module LD-1W. Also new: the prying-eye Nokia Remote Camera PT-6 and Bluetooth-powered Wireless Headset HS-11W.
In conjunction with its unveiling of its new 6670 smartphone, Finnish handset maker Nokia today also unveiled three new additions to its now extensive line-up of 'mobile enhancements'. Comprising the Wireless Headset HS-11W, Wireless GPS Module LD-1W and Nokia Remote Camera PT-6, the additions include both new concepts and upgrades to existing product lines.

Scheduled to arrive in time for Christmas, Nokia's Wireless Headset HS-11W is the company's third crack at a Bluetooth headset - not counting the company's first attempt, which was cancelled prior to commercial availability. At 63 x 24 x 18 mm and 17 g, it will be one of the smaller headsets available from a major manufacturer, and in a Nokia first will support not only the Handsfree profile but also the Headset profile.
According to Nokia, the headset will offer a talk time of up to 6 hours and standby time of up to 160 hours, which is an exact match for the claims made regarding its last announced headset, the HS-4W.
Also slated to hit shelves in the 4th quarter and sell for 450 EUR, Nokia's Remote Camera is essentially an upgrade to the company's Observation Camera, which saw light of day in 2003. The new version features a megapixel camera where the previous edition offered a VGA version, plus vastly expanded functionality such as the ability to communicate both hi-res images and video clips via MMS and e-mail.

As with its predecessor, the Remote Camera will require a mains connection and a GSM SIM card for communication, and can be configured to take action when motion is detected, at pre-defined intervals, or when an SMS query is sent directly to the device. Users can also receive notifications when a minimum or maximum temperature has been reached, and can also view the temperature history for the past 24 hours as a graph.
What's more, users can now control the camera using Bluetooth wireless technology, and has been graced with its own Remote Camera Manager application to provide a graphical user interface for those owning a Series 60 smartphone.
Those vying for Nokia's new Wireless GPS Module LD-1W will have to remain patient until next year, however, as this particular product is scheduled for availability in the first quarter of 2005. Measuring in at 78 x 45 x 17 mm and weighing 62 g, the black-and-gray GPS Module will according to Nokia offer up to 10 hours of battery life. Apart from an external GPS antenna connector, Bluetooth provides its sole means of connectivity.
The GPS receiver itself offers 12 parallel channels, an accuracy of approximately 25 meters horizontal and acquisition times of 60, 45 and 10 seconds respectively for cold, warm and hot starts. The GPS Module is also splash proof, and comes with its own charger - however is compatible with standard Nokia chargers. Also bundled will be a 32 MB MMC Card including a
Wayfinder Mobile Navigator application with 3-month license; Mobile Location Framework (MLFW) software; and Nokia Wireless GPS Module User's Guide.
