More Freedom from LogitechBy Jørgen Sundgot, Thursday 9 September 2004
The accessory maker unwraps its Logitech Freedom Mobile Headset, touting Bluetooth 1.2 and reduced Wi-Fi interference. Coming up later this year: the Logitech Mobile Pro.

Logitech today unveiled the company's second Bluetooth headset and successor to its Logitech Mobile Bluetooth Headset, the lengthily-named Logitech Mobile Freedom Headset. Featuring a lighter and more compact design than its predecessor, the new headset utilizes Bluetooth 1.2, which includes Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) technology to reduce problematic Wi-Fi interference, as well as the company's patent-pending WindStop technology.

To be the first of two mobile Bluetooth headsets to be introduced by Logitech this fall, the Freedom features an over-the-ear, wrap-around attachment solution as opposed to the behind-the-ear approach applied by its predecessor. As with its predecessor, however, a soft-padded earpiece remains, but rather than a retractable boom the Freedom sports a short boom with noise-reduction padding.

The Logitech Freedom Mobile headset will also feature Logitech's new WindStop technology, a technology which surrounds the microphone in an 'acoustical controlled porosity barrier' to reduce the disruptive effects of wind noise. According to Logitech, WindStop not only offers better wind-noise reduction than expensive DSP (digital signal processor) solutions, but also includes noise-canceling technology.

Weighing less than 30 g, the Logitech Mobile Freedom Headset will according to Logitech offer seven hours of continuous talk time and up to 300 hours of standby time.

Along with the Logitech Mobile Freedom Headset, Logitech will release another Bluetooth headset this fall, the Logitech Mobile Pro Headset. As with the Freedom, the Pro will utilize Bluetooth 1.2 technology for faster connect time, improved quality of sound, and AFH (Adaptive Frequency Hopping) for less interference from other 2.4 GHz systems such as Wi-Fi.

This headset will offer up to eight hours of continuous talk time and more than three weeks of standby time, and employs the same design as the original Logitech Mobile Bluetooth Headset. As with the Freedom, this headset features noise-canceling microphone, and will come with a protective carrying case that doubles as the recharging unit.

The Logitech Mobile Freedom Headset and the Logitech Mobile Pro Headset will be available in October throughout U.S., European and Asian retail stores, at suggested retail prices of $69.99 USD and $99.99 USD, respectively.
