Motorola's latest Special Edition phone is the i833, an i830 that's been given a make over by design firm Pininfarina of Ferrari fame.
Targeting fashion-minded buyers, Motorola has given their i830 phone to Italian design firm Pininfarina, the design company behind such iconic cars as Ferrari and Maserati. The result is the special edition i833, complete "industrial" looks.
The i833 is largely the same feature-wise as the i830 on which it is based. That includes a 16-bit color display, Push To Talk functionality, and support for iDEN networks. It also offers a built-in speakerphone, voice dialing, caller ID via an external screen, Java support, ringtones, and GPS functionality for location-based services.

Of course, feature set isn't the main attraction of the i833. The main attraction is its resemblance to a 1950s Ferrari. From the titanium-colored hood-like swoosh to the top half of the phone to the wood coloring and exposed bolt screws on the interior, the i833 is intended for those with fond memories they wish to relive or those who wish they had those fond memories. The car-like housing of the handset also features a translucent internal lens that gives customers a peek into the ?hood? of the phone, a gas tank-shaped audio jack cover and grill-like bottom connector cover.
The Motorola i833 will be available in the fourth quarter of 2004. Pricing information is not available.
