As phone carriers try to come up with new ways to entice customers, Cingular's latest spin is a part of its new Voice Connect auto-call service: Escape-a-Date. The user can setup the service to automatically call him/her at a pre-defined time (in the middle of a blind date, of course) with one of eight suggestions for what to say as an excuse to leave immediately. The user can take the suggestion or, if the date is actually going well, just hang up.
The Voice Connect service also offers other, less manipulative auto-call options, such as a Wake-up call, Joke of the day, and daily trivia. The Voice Connect service is a $4.99 USD monthly fee over and above regular service costs.
