Motorola and Research In Motion (RIM) have announced that Motorola has licensed RIM's Blackberry Connect software for the Motorola MPx and MPx200 smartphones, which will allow both devices to connect to Blackberry services including Blackberry Enterprise Server and Blackberry Web Client. The Blackberry Connect software has been the basis of RIM's platform, as it integrates into Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino servers on the corporate back end and provides push-based email to RIM's own Blackberry communicators. RIM has been pushing in recent months to offer the same sort of functionality on other platforms, and signed a deal with PalmSource to offer similar functionality for Palm OS devices last December. Samsung also joined the Blackberry Connect program in January.
