Hot on the heels of the Axim X30 line, Dell has released a pair of branded Bluetooth accessories targeted at its new Bluetooth handhelds.
Dell today introduced two new accessories for the Dell Axim X30 line - the Dell GPS navigation system and the Dell executive keyboard, both of which connect via Bluetooth.

The Dell GPS navigation system includes a Bluetooth-connected GPS receiver as well as a car mount and cigarette lighter power adapter. The included software offers voice-instruction turn by turn directions as well as visual instructions. North American maps are provided by Navteq, and in addition to basic street information includes information on speed limits and point sof interest such as ATMs, gas stations, parking, and restaurants. It will sell for $249 USD.
The Dell executive keyboard is a rebranded Think Outside Stowaway Wireless Keyboard, which communicates with the handheld via Bluetooth and includes a detachable stand to hold the handheld. The stand can hold the handheld in either portrait or landscape rotation, as the Axim X30 supports screen rotation courtesy of Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition. Because the Axim is capable of using both its Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios simultaneously, that allows the user to connect the keyboard and surf the net or respond to e-mail simultaneously. The keyboard will sell for $99 USD, less than direct from Think Outside.

Bluetooth accessories for handhelds have been slower to catch on than for mobile phones, but there are a healthy number on the market. The main advantages of Bluetooth accessories over traditional serial port accessories are the flexibility of the wireless connection as compared to a physical snap-on or cable and the potential for nearly limitless upgradability. Any device that supports the appropriate Bluetooth profile and has software that can make use of it should support any Bluetooth accessory.
