DoCoMo attributes the jump in users to high-demand for its latest phone models, particularly the 900i-series, as well as the extensive coverage of the network. FOMA reaches 5 million usersBy Larry Garfield, Tuesday 20 July 2004
NTT DoCoMo has announced that it now carries 5 million subscribers on its 3G FOMA network in Japan. That's a considerable jump from its 3 million milestone, which it reached only last May. Meanwhile, FOMA service now reaches over 99% of populated areas, including base stations in subway stations. DoCoMo attributes the jump in users to high-demand for its latest phone models, particularly the 900i-series, as well as the extensive coverage of the network. In June, DoCoMo also began offering a fixed-rate data plan for all-you-can-eat i-mode service.
