T-Mobile offers MDA III sneak peekBy Jørgen Sundgot, Monday 28 June 2004
Lifting the veil on its rumoured next-generation device, T-Mobile today officially announced the Windows Mobile 2003-powered MDA III, complete with Wi-Fi and a slide-down thumbboard.

Hot on the heels of rumours spreading like wildfire concerning a launch of a possible new communicator from German mobile network operator T-Mobile, the company lifts the veil on the successor to its current model, the MDA II: the MDA III. To be equipped with integrated Wi-Fi 802.11b connectivity and a slide-down thumbboard, the device is expected to hit shelves in September.

Having already acquired 40% of the market share for communicators in Germany, according to T-Mobile, the network operator looks to the MDA III as the worthy successor to its MDA II - an OEM version of a device known as the HTC Himalaya, also sold by network operator O2 under the moniker XDA II.

Although T-Mobile revealed few specifications concerning the MDA III, it did disclose the existence of integrated Wi-Fi 802.11b and a slide-down thumbboard, both features not commonly found in current communicators. Although Bluetooth is supported in the MDA II, support for this wireless PAN technology was not mentioned, however despite this its inclusion cannot be ruled out.

T-Mobile also said the battery capacity of the MDA III has been increased by approximately 25 percent over the MDA II, and that it expects to have the BlackBerry e-mail push service available for the new device from the fourth quarter of this year.
