Sony Ericsson, Vodafone launch F500iBy Jørgen Sundgot, Thursday 24 June 2004
Snuggling up to the world's largest mobile network operator, Sony Ericsson launches the Vodafone live!-equipped F500i, complete with a large colour screen and 0.3 MP camera.

Sony Ericsson and Vodafone today announced the launch of the F500i camera phone, exclusively available on Vodafone live!, Vodafone's multimedia consumer service. Featuring a large colour screen, integrated still and video camera and support for music ringtones, the F500i will be sold across Vodafone live! markets from the middle of July.

The F500i is Sony Ericsson's first Vodafone-only handset
The F500i promotes the use of imaging through its design and Sony Ericsson's operating system, which include features such as a dedicated camera button on the side of the phone and quick access to sending images or video clips through the user interface. The camera features a 4x digital zoom and its 1.9", 16-bit TFT presents content at a portrait resolution of 128 x 160 pixels.

As the first phone designed by Sony Ericsson exclusively for Vodafone, the F500i comes equipped with support for Vodafone live!, which offers an extensive range of content. Services found in the live! offering include picture messaging, gaming, realistic ringtones, alerts as well as various content such as music, sport and news. On the note of connectivity, the F500i also offers a WAP 2.0 browser as well as GPRS Class 10 and USB/RS232.

"We are very excited about expanding our collaboration with Vodafone and bringing the F500i to the market, as we share their passion for compelling mobile entertainment services," said Jan Wäreby, Corporate Executive Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing at Sony Ericsson.

The F500i also features the Mascot Capsule Engine Micro3D Edition, a graphics platform which allows for graphically rich mobile applications and content to be downloaded from the Vodafone live! portal. Also, the F500i is Sony Ericsson's only phone besides the Z600 to support the manufacturer's EGB-10 Gameboard accessory. Sporting a whopping 10 MB of memory, users will be able to store a vast number of pictures and Java applications, as well as 40-tone polyphonic ringtones.

An additional hi-res picture of the Sony Ericsson F500i is available on the following page.
