At the annual Nokia Connection conference, held simultaneously in Singapore and Helsinki, Nokia today introduced a smartphone with a twist - and a fold. The Nokia 6260 smartphone will offer mobile professionals most of the manufacturer's latest mobile technology features and applications, including push-to-talk support, document and presentation viewer software, Bluetooth connectivity and a VGA camera.

Sporting tri-band GSM/GPRS connectivity, the 6260 smartphone features a semi-innovative swivel design which has for some time been implemented in handsets by LG Electronics and Samsung. Based on the Symbian OS powered Series 60 platform, the 6260 opens to talk, swivels and folds with the display facing out to browse the web or access applications, twists to activate the camera, or closes flat to slip into pockets.
Utilizing push-to-talk, the Nokia 6260 will enable users to initiate a quick discussion with colleagues and even groups at the touch of a single button, provided they also have support for push-to-talk. A Wireless Village-based, presence-enhanced contacts service also alerts personal and professional contacts of the user's availability, potentially saving time for both parties.
The 6260 will also come bundled with software for viewing presentations and documents, whether these are stored locally or received as attachments. Additionally, data synchronization utilizing the SyncML standard enables local or remote updates of calendar, contacts and to-do lists.
As with other Series 60 smartphones, the 6260 comes equipped with a mobile XHTML and HTML browser, as well as software for playing back and streaming audio and video content, as well as viewing images. Memory expansion is, as with previous Series 60 handsets, carried out through support for MMC memory cards.
The Nokia 6260 smartphone also acts as the backdrop for the Nokia Wireless Keyboard, which was also introduced by Nokia today. Using Bluetooth technology, the Wireless Keyboard features a full-QWERTY folding design for quick use and storage and offers shortcut keys for frequently used applications.
It is expected to start shipping in Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific and Americas in the third quarter of 2004 with an estimated, unsubsidized sales price of 400 EUR.
