With a 3.5" TFT display and support for a slew of audio and video formats, iRiver's Linux-powered PMP-120 portable media viewer is set to launch this summer.
Having earned itself a name in the portable audio player market, iRiver is now preparing to bring out the company's first portable media viewer product in a market set to heat up during 2004. Having opted for Linux to power its first product, the PMP-120 offers support for the vast majority of popular audio and video formats, except for Microsoft's Windows Media Video (WMV). This, however, will be supported in the company's Windows CE powered PMC-100, to be introduced later this year.
The PMP-120 will offer playback of audio and video files courtesy, as well as viewing of photos, either through its integrated 16-bit, 3.5" TFT display, or a TV out port. Promising up to 5 hours of video playback and 16 hours of audio, the device also offers an integrated FM radio, support for USB 2.0 and Usb On The Go - all in a package measuring a relatively modest 13.9 x 8.4 x 3.1 cm, and weighing 277 g.

Those favouring the MP3 format get the added bonus of support for MP3:ID3 info tags in versions V1/V2 2.0, V2 3.0 and V2 4.0, while Ogg Vorbis info tags and WMA meta information is also supported.
A built-in mono loudspeaker is complemented by a set of stereo earphones which also serve as the antenna for the built-in FM tuner. A wired remote control without display is also present, as is an integrated microphone, while the PMP-120 also comes with line in and TV out cables included. The storage capacity of this particular model is 20 GB, however a 40 GB version is expected out later this year.
Information concerning the expected pricing of the PMP-120 was not available at the time of writing.
