Motorola has announced a new handset exclusively for Nextel's TDMA network in North America, the i830, which now comes in as the smallest handset on Nextel's network. A flip-style phone with a 65,000-color display, the i830 also sports a GPS radio for location-based services, including visual and audible driving directions. It also includes Java support. It also includes a speakerphone and voice recorder, in addition to other features typical of this sort of handset, including an external screen, vibrate mode, and airplane mode. Naturally it also supports Nextel's trademark Push To Talk (PTT) functionality, and with Nextel's International Direct Connect service provides walkie-talkie functionality to subscribers across most of North and South America.
The Motorola i830 is available through Nextel at a price of $299.99 USD with a two-year service agreement for new activations.
