The palmOne Treo 600 had quickly become one of the most popular converged devices to date to dominate the mobile communicator market, but as with many similar devices some businesses have been reticent to deploy it due to security concerns. The Treo 600's built-in camera has the potential, in the eyes of many corporate security specialists, to be an uncontrollable "leak" of information as malicious employees smuggle out pictures of proprietary information. In response, Sprint has announced a new camera-free version of the Treo 600, available immediately. Otherwise identical to the Sprint Treo 600, the camera-less version retails for $599.99 USD. The normal camera-sporting Treo is still available through all channels.
palmOne had previously announced a camera-less Treo 600 in Europe for carriers that wanted to offer more company security-friendly communicator devices.
