According to a new study, American mobile phone buyers know what they want, and it's wireless and Push-To-Talk.
According to a new study conducted by research firm Strategic Analytics, American buyers aren't interested in mobile video, music, or games. They want wireless and Push-To-Talk functionality.
According to a survey of 1000 mobile phone users in the United States, 54% want a wireless headset for their phone. Although the report does not specify, Bluetooth is the likely candidate for such a feature. Only slightly fewer, 50% of those surveyed, wanted Push-To-Talk (PTT) functionality. A distant but still popular third request was improved PIM capabilities, which over one third of those surveyed wanted in their next phone.
The report also notes that there is a "strong pocket" of interest for removable storage on mobile phones. That is driven mostly by the surge in camera phones, and the nascent music- and media-using markets.
Other notable findings of the survey included 22% of those surveyed listed Bluetooth on their want-list. QWERTY keypads, meanwhile, were of interest to only 13% of those surveyed, while video, music, and games, which current phones push heavily with help from the large media giants, were of interest to less than one in ten users.
